The Detroit Truetrac is a spiral - shaped performance differential that maximizes wheel traction and improves ride and handling.

Operation
The Truetrac works as a standard or open differential under normal driving conditions, allowing één wheel to turn faster or slower if necessary. When a wheel loses traction or changes terrain, the gear separation forces take effect and torque is transferred to the high traction wheel. The helical gears engage with increasing force until the wheel spin is slowed or stopped completely. When the vehicle exits the low traction situation, the differential resumes normal operation.
