The heating cores of the universal air conditioner are designed to provide warm air in the cabin on cold days. Warm engine coolant passes through the heater core and the fan motor moves air over the heated fins and through your vents. With age, a heating core can leak or become clogged. Some signs of a clogged heating element may be that you notice a sweet smell in the vents, that the heater is not heating up, or that the windows are not defrosting. Finding coolant on the floor of the vehicle or under the cabin are also signs of a leaking heater core. Flushing a heater core can clear a blockage, but a leaking heater core must be replaced.
