MOPAR REAR AXLE UPDATE 2011/2013

This rear axle update is for the Dodge Ram 1500 models from 2011 to 2013 with the new model rear axle from ZF.

Don't know what type of rear axle you have-
The ZF rear axle can be recognized by the following characteristics.

- The cover of the cardan has no filling opening.
-The gimbal has a drain plug on the right side of the housing.
- The cardan has a filler plug on the right side in front of the housing

This update consists of the following components
- new lid with higher filling opening.
- Sealing strip for oil return opening in the cardan
- Cap for sealing fill-opening.

What does this update entail:

The first series of the new ZF rear axles have a number of design flaws.
Originally there is a filling hole on the side of the housing, this is too low in the housing so that not enough oil can be refilled with an oil change. This is solved by placing a new lid with an alternative higher filling opening.

In the housing there is a gap between the front and rear pinion bearing through which the oil flows back. It has been found that this causes the front bearing to receive too little oil in some situations. To prevent the oil from flowing back too quickly, a metal strip is installed in the housing at the place of the opening.
